Destination Rest
Destination Rest partnered with the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum and hosted the event in the historic 1903 El Paso County Courthouse in the Accessorize It! exhibit. Resting in non-traditional spaces, like a museum, is an innovative way to encourage rest and reclaim space. After the nap, attendees went to another exhibit, The 50% of the Story, Women Expressing Creativity. They were invited to find an art piece that represented their rest experience and write a poem inspired by the piece. Attendees got the chance to share their work and connect through art. Working with the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum proved the power of collaboration and the need for rest across all sectors and spaces.
Stats
- Destination Rest has worked with over 100 people
- More than 70% of attendees have a marginalized identity
- 100% of survey respondents shared Destination Rest offered a valuable learning experience
- “To come together as a community to support and encourage ourselves and each other to rest is the most necessary shift needed in our burn-out, isolated, lonely, scared country. This is the greatest expression of community care I have participated in in years.”

This poem is an invitation
This poem requires nothing from you.
You have no tasks. No responsibilities.
You answer only to your mind, body, and spirit.
Lean into this connection.
Adjust your body, tend to your needs, and be held by this poem.
Tune into the unique rhythm of your breath. Your body is a full orchestra.
Take time to learn how your breath adds to the beauty of your body’s sound.
Breathe deeply.
Every inhale is the filling of your body with what you need. Each exhale is a letting go of things that do not serve you. Stay here.
Breathe and give life to what is needed and blow out what is not.
This poem belongs to you. These affirmations are intrinsically true. Take what you need. Take more than what you need. You deserve abundance. You deserve a cup that overflows.
I know these things to be true. You are enough.
You are valid.
You are exceptional.
You are made from decades of survival and resilience.
You are worthy of rest.
You are strong.
Your productivity does not determine your worth.
You get to be tired.
Your emotions are valid.
Your self-care is necessary.
There are systems literally created to oppress you, and you have survived.
Give yourself permission to mourn, to grieve, to heal, to honor what you need.
We sit in one of the most difficult times in our lives.
We are the ancestors.
We are finding survival and hope in each other.
There are tears, loss, and pain, and we hold space for beauty, creation, and joy.
This is an invitation to lower your shoulders and put down what you’ve been carrying.
Let this poem hold it for a while.
This is an invitation to unclench your jaw.
Welcome the release. Softening of muscle and spirit.
If your mind wanders or you believe you are not worthy of these affirmations.
If you think you should not accept this invitation, smile. Know this poem is a bountiful harvest and you can collect all that belongs to you.
Your joy is necessary.
Your rest is revolutionary.
Taking care of yourself is a priority.
Your existence in this world is crucial.
There is possibility and abundance in your future. You are rising to the apex of your success.
Lean into the transition to new life and opportunity.
Return to your breath.
Connect your hand with your stomach or chest. Feel the rise and fall of your body.
Stay here as long as you need.
Your breath is always available to you.
This is an invitation to open your eyes, adjust your body, to walk away full and nourished.
Remember your body is a full orchestra; Every breath adds to the unique beauty of your body’s sound.
This poem is always here, is always true, and it is completely yours.
