Prismatic
Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, 50% of the Story, Women Expressing Creativity exhibit 215 S Tejon St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903
“Prismatic” is a spoken word poem celebrating women artists and that despite barriers and oppression women have always and continue to create art. With or without access to a gallery or studio, women create art from hemmed pants, recipes, pottery, and embroidery to visual art, poetry, and sculpture. Women’s creativity is a gift from the universe! This piece invites visitors to explore the 50% of the Story gallery and listen to 100% of our stories.
I am featured in the Colorado Springs LGBTQ+ Oral History Project season 4. This project is a collection of the life stories of longtime LGBTQ+ residents of Colorado Springs. It aims to document and honor the struggles and triumphs of queer and trans folks in a place that has often been called “ground zero” of the late 80s-90s “culture wars”. I was able to share my story as a queer Black woman, my ever-growing understanding of myself, and the joys of my identity.
